If you can’t tell, I’ve been on a lace-up kick lately when it comes to shoes – first heels, now flats. With the coziness of fall comes a need for cute closed-toe shoes that pair well with jeans, dresses and autumn’s go-to looks. These ghillie style flats have been everywhere lately and I couldn’t resist snagging a pair for myself. What’s a ghillie style, you ask? Basically, it’s a lace-up flat, but after a quick Google, I learned that ghillies were adapted from Oxford shoes with the tongue removed and long laces added so that they could be tied between the ankle and calf to keep the ties from getting dirty. Interesting, huh?
I love that they have a bit of a ballerina vibe and add a touch of cool elegance even when you choose to skip a heel. It takes an extra minute to criss-cross the laces just right, but the finished style is worth the effort. Which pair are your favorite?
