Jami Ray Travel UGC 30A beach

A book is a lot like a beach town. You can fall into one and not want to leave. And if you’re like me, your packing list always includes a good read (digital or hard copy), even if your quiet time is sprinkled here and there when someone isn’t yelling “Mom, watch this!” in the background.

Each town along 30A has its own energy. Some are colorful while some are neutral. Some are calm, quiet and tucked away while some buzzing with golf carts, green juices and bikers on the go. I matched each one with a book that brings a similar vibe. If you’ve been around me awhile, you know I’m a huge fan of Audible and listen while working, driving or traveling. I love the feel and relaxation of a “real” book, but have to go digital 90% of the time to make it work. As your favorite local posting all the details on 30A, I figured this would be a fun pairing to share with you. These are mostly newer releases or ones with recent film or TV adaptations, and I’ve included a little detail from each so you can see why I loved it and what makes it memorable.

Let’s get into it…

Seaside

Book: The Five-Star Weekend by Elin Hilderbrand
This story is like a beachy Nancy Meyers version of a reunion show, where a widow invites women from every chapter of her life for one long, luxurious weekend in Nantucket. There’s rich storytelling, plenty of meals on porches, and a memorable scene involving a surf lesson and a few hard truths. It feels like a movie waiting to happen and the story could just as easily be set in Seaside.

Alys Beach

Book: The Guest by Emma Cline
If Alys had a genre, it would be quietly dramatic, and this book captures that beautifully. Set in a luxury Hamptons town, it follows a 20-something woman drifting through borrowed parties, poolside tension, and lavish homes where she clearly doesn’t belong. The moment she crashes a private dinner with nothing but charm and desperation? You’ll be hooked.

Grayton Beach

Book: The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han
The ultimate coming-of-age summer series, this one is about first loves, family beach houses, and bonfires you never forget. If you’ve ever danced late night in Grayton with a cold drink in hand, you’ll get why this one fits. Bonus: there’s a whole TV series to binge afterward.

Rosemary Beach

Book: One Italian Summer by Rebecca Serle
This dreamy story follows a grieving daughter who travels to Positano and magically meets her mom—before she was her mom. It’s introspective, full of Italian coast moments, and brings the kind of emotional reset that Rosemary Beach mornings and wine-at-sunset nights provide. The lemon grove lunch scene will make you want to book a table immediately.

Sandestin

Book: The Summer of Songbirds by Kristy Woodson Harvey
This one is full of Southern heart and sunshine, just like Sandestin in July. It centers around three lifelong friends who spent summers at a girls’ camp and return as adults to save it. The scenes at the lake and the reunion banter feel like childhood memories dressed up with adult stakes and margaritas.

Seacrest

Book: The Jetsetters by Amanda Eyre Ward
Three adult siblings and their dramatic mother set off on a Mediterranean cruise that quickly turns awkward, funny, and heartwarming. It’s messy family dynamics in motion, which makes it a great fit for the sometimes chaotic but always memorable vibe of Seacrest. The scene where they all get drunk in port is pure secondhand embarrassment gold.

Dune Allen

Book: Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens
A familiar one, but still a strong pick for Dune Allen’s slower pace and natural beauty. Kya’s quiet life in the marsh and the rich descriptions of tide, salt, and small town suspicion feel like they could take place right off Oyster Lake. The firefly scene? Haunting and beautiful.

WaterColor

Book: Meet Me at the Lake by Carley Fortune
Set in a lakeside Canadian town with a charming old inn and a second chance at love, this book hits a few favorite Watercolor notes. It’s scenic, heartfelt, and even includes a nod to creative entrepreneurship when Fern decides whether to renovate her mother’s inn. Read it with a happy hour glass from Wine Bar or sitting at the beach club, fully immersed in the story.

Just when you thought we’d hit every spot along 30A, here come a few more that deserve their own moment in the sun. Every neighborhood has its own vibe, so naturally, I had to match them with the perfect book.

Blue Mountain Beach

Book: The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren
Enemies fake a honeymoon trip to Maui and chaos naturally follows. This one is hilarious, offbeat, and not too polished, just like a laid-back week of vacation fun in Blue Mountain. The hotel buffet food poisoning scene is outrageous and unforgettable, but somehow still makes you root for them both.

Watersound

Book: Hello Beautiful by Ann Napolitano
A sweeping family story with big Little Women energy, this one leans literary but is a smooth read. The family histories are at the heart and I love that everything looks classic and effortless but has real depth. The library scenes with William and the quiet beauty of the writing match the slower, smarter pace of this neighborhood. Plus, it’s a great one to take to a day of lounging at the club!

Seagrove Beach

Book: Nora Goes Off Script by Annabel Monaghan
Nora is a screenwriter whose latest script brings a Hollywood actor to her cozy home, where he then decides to stay. It’s charming, funny, and full of emotional layers about motherhood, marriage, and what comes next. The porch scenes and the small-town setting feel like Seagrove’s style and charm—established, warm, and still full of surprises.

Inlet Beach

Book: The Paper Palace by Miranda Cowley Heller
This one goes deep into memory, identity, and one woman’s long-held secret. It’s not your lightest beach read, but it’s gripping in the best way and full of coastal New England imagery. That lakeside cabin scene? Feels like something you’d dream about after a slow morning at The Donut Hole.

Gulf Place

Book: The Love of My Life by Rosie Walsh
A smart and emotional page-turner about a woman whose husband starts to uncover the truth about her real identity. It’s modern domestic fiction with some mystery and a lot of heart, perfect for a stylish reader who loves a story with layers. That graveyard scene where everything shifts? Totally gripping.

Santa Rosa Beach

Book: Same Time Next Summer by Annabel Monaghan
This one is all about that pull of summer nostalgia and an old love you never quite got over. The setting—an East Coast beach town with family homes and years of memories layered like beach towels—is a perfect match for a casual coastal town. The scene where Sam finds an old mixtape is peak sentimental in the best way.

Tops’l State Park

Book: Tom Lake by Ann Patchett
If you love storytelling within storytelling, this one layers a mother’s romantic past with her daughters’ present-day curiosity as they shelter together during lockdown at their cherry orchard. It’s tender, literary, and slow in the most beautiful way. Feels like sitting by the campfire listening to someone tell a really good story at golden hour.

“Audible Hopes You Have Enjoyed This Program”

When I hear those words at the end of a book, it can be so bittersweet. The best beach reads can make you want to keep the story going. You know that good feeling at the end because summer novels don’t just pass the time—they let you fully unplug, feel something, and maybe even miss a few texts on purpose.

If you’re a hard copy girly, I applaud you. If you’re more digital or want to try it out, I’ve got you covered!
