30A Mama Jami Ray Miami Vacay Caftailing

If there’s one summer vibe I’ll be embracing on repeat, it’s caftailing—that effortless mix of wearing a fabulous caftan and sipping a perfectly chilled cocktail. Equal parts chic and comfy, caftailing is more than just a look—it’s a lifestyle.

Wearing a caftan feels like stepping straight into vacation mode, whether you are by the pool or just pretending in your backyard.

What is a caftan?

The caftan has roots that go way back, originating in ancient cultures before becoming the beloved wardrobe of choice for classic screen sirens and seaside socialites. Think Elizabeth Taylor lounging poolside or Talitha Getty on a Marrakech rooftop. If you’ve ever seen photos taken by the prolific photographer Slim Aarons, there’s bound to be a caftan or 3 in sight.

Fast forward to today and the caftan is back with fresh energy and serious style. It represents the ounce of luxury in life where you can lounge and marinate in the day (even if you have a to-do list waiting for the next day or a family schedule that takes the majority of your time). Today, the caftan has become the ultimate symbol of laid-back glamour, and it couldn’t be more perfect for beachside days or balmy backyard nights.

When choosing the right caftan, look for a breezy silhouette that floats away from the body while still giving you shape. I love bold prints—tropical florals, abstract geometrics, or even pastel stripes that feel coastal and fun. A good caftan should drape well, have movement, and ideally include a little something extra: tassels, beading, or an unexpected neckline.

Accessories? Keep it simple but striking. A raffia clutch, oversized sunnies, and a pair of gold slides or sparkly sandals go a long way. Add statement earrings if you want to amp up the glam.

Now for the cocktail portion of caftailing:

1. Espresso Martini

Because a little caffeine with your caftan is always a good idea. Frothy, elegant, and a perfect transition from day to night.

2. Solo Rosé or Bubbly

Serve it in your favorite coupe glass, add a sprig of mint or edible flower, and let the glamour speak for itself.

3. Coastal Citrus Spritz

Mix grapefruit juice, sparkling water, a splash of elderflower liqueur, and a squeeze of lime. Serve over ice with a salty rim or a slice of orange for a little drama.

So whether you are hosting friends, watching the sunset, or just enjoying a quiet moment, caftailing is the summer mood we all deserve. Add a breeze, your favorite playlist, and you are golden.
